How odd. I guess that “one handgun per child” thing was satire, but I think “one handgun per child” is a great idea.
. . . given a responsible parent, of course.
I certainly don’t take issue with responsible parents teaching the responsible handling of firearms to their children. What pleased me about Leon’s satire is how it points out that simply flooding the third world with IT will not necessarily solve all of their problems — in all likelihood it may only trade old problems for new ones.
Bah. I rather suspect that any nation sufficiently invested in its children’s future to buy into the OLPC project will provide the equivalent of “responsible parents”. It sorta goes with the territory.
