Chipping the web – trees of ten

August 20th, 2007 6:13:41 pm pst by Sterling Camden

Chipping the webOdd combination:  If you multiply the first 4 odd positive integers (1 * 3 * 5 * 7), you get 105.  That makes 105 the double factorial of 7.

How to lick the envelope.

Dumbain names (thanks, Kent).

Joseph and Tracy responded to the 7P meme with some word associations, and Stu chastised me for preserving the mistaken apostrophe that was passed from Bucky to Tish to me.  I don’t know, Stu, maybe the meme belongs to the Ps?

Dan Perlman took part of my Jazz writing post and reapplied it to cooking.  Now that’s what jazz is all about!

Originally, I did my post as Ps instead of P’s. But then I decided to go back and add the apostrophe since the meme author had used it. hehe.

Thanks for the link!

With regards to applying Jazz writing to cooking, that’s definitely the truth. The only reason we have the interesting dishes we have today (anyone want Tiramisu with Twinkies instead of ladyfingers?). With cooking being one of my passions (I think I have way too many), I heartily believe in always experimenting with food. Only when you experiment with food can one truly appreciate the gastronomical delights that this world has to offer. Too bad many of the customers I encounter (mostly indirectly through their orders) are so scared of getting sick that they refuse to deviate from strict diets that leave them both gastronomically unsatisfied, but I believe immunity-deficient and spiritually incomplete (yes, I find eating to be a healthy, exciting, spiritual endeavor). Hm, I just had an idea for new post (or at least an addition to a new post I already had an idea for), thanks to you both

Erm, I lost track in the second sentence, I meant to conclude it by saying that the only reason we have all kinds of different and interesting dishes is because cooks, like jazz musicians, love to experiment. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that most of the truly great chefs find the more ephemeral arts (bizarre paints, sculptures and the like) unendingly fascinating. Maybe I’m just trying to rationalize my own desire to experiment too much, so sue me.

Nothing gets my heart beating like the sudden idea for how to prepare some main ingredient and new (at least to me) and fascinating ways. Whether it be unhealthy snack foods or a gourmet dish I’ve had a few times, no food (or food combo) is taboo.
