Speed of…
Sterling Camden

Inspired by an IM chat with apotheon, who says that credit for “speed of business” belongs to Beth Blakely.
I wanted to include the speed of light as well, but it’s so great that any meaningful representation causes all the others to become meaningless.
What would you put in your own “speed of…” chart?

Just FYI, the speed of light
depends on the medium it is
travelling through. Should this
be a Bose-Einstein condensate,
then you can slow light down to
below walking speed. See? C!
Thanks, Stu. I suppose I was somewhat arbitrary in choosing the benchmark speed for each of these above. For instance, the speed of sound varies wildly, especially with elevation, so I took the sea-level speed from Wikipedia. The Veyron is represented by its top speed, while the human’s is based on a 4-minute mile (which has often been exceeded).
And we all know that the speed of government is directly related to the perceived political threat level.
