Chipping the web – lashes

Chipping the webDivision: Since World War II, Korea has been divided at or across the 38th parallel north.

OMG. Best. Blogadvice. Evar. Lots of anti-cliché-y goodness.

Jessica Hagy graphs the likelihood of keeping New Year’s resolutions. Dave Rogers lights the path to avoiding failure.

The head lemur’s take on Microsoft’s “laptop for (not) every blogger” scheme. Some great one-line characterizations: “Edelman PR,(the gang that can’t shoot straight)…VISTA, (the straightjacket of personal computing)”. And what he would have done with the laptop had they sent him one.

TDavid’s making some big changes for 2007, including a full reset of his reading list. That’s a good thing, because RSS often stands for Rut Syndrome on Steroids. Me, I recycle my blogroll gradually. I’m always looking for fresh voices, and I occasionally prune the sites that no longer hold much of my attention. I’d like to find myself on TD’s new list, but if not — no hard feelings. As to what I will be doing differently? My mission hasn’t changed: I’m still trying to become a real boy.

IM000446croppedSpeaking of which, mine’s a VW Eurovan, in case any of you were wondering.

According to this test (thanks, Randy), I’m a middle-of-the-road (50) male (19/20 on angles, 29% on spot the difference, right thumb, 7/20 on empathising, 19/20 on systematizing, 6/10 on judging emotion in the eyes, 0.97 and 0.94 on index/ring finger, but I like more masculine women’s faces [hmm], 11/12 on 3D shapes, 11 and 9 on the words, 25 pounds). For what it’s worth.

The Armchair Anarchist – er, excuse me, Paul Raven – is also making some changes for the new year. Dropping the pseudonym and focusing more on original content than links. Looking forward to it, Paul! Even though your handle was one of my favorites, I gotta like the authenticity of using your real-world name. Your links are always fascinating, but I like your writing too — so I’m hopeful for this new balance.

Shelley begins the new year with some writer’s regret, a unique answer to the question “What is a blog?” and a new word (or word use): oogie. Oh, and an apparent desire to avoid verbal “contra-pheromones“. Nothing but love from this sector, Shelley.

Jeremiah Owyang: “I highly doubt that the collective intelligence of the world will create just one form of thinking, in fact, I suspect it will be a springboard for diverse thought.” Let us hope so.

Mark Goren highlights various approaches to sharing your blogroll, including my OPML blogroll widget. Thanks, Mark!

And thanks also to Frenetik!

I’ve known three people to take the that test and all three scored exactly 50. Make you go hmmmm!

Yeah, that makes you wonder if the test’s a bit rigged. Or maybe you only know middle-males. Any female readers care to take the test and report back?

[...] Lashes: Deuteronomy 24 states that when a crime deserves flogging, the maximum number of lashes to be received is 40 (otherwise the criminal would be degraded. Oh). In order to avoid mistakenly exceeding that count, the Sanhedrin would not administer more than 39 (gee, thanks). [...]
