This is the second Blogger-hosted blog this morning that has denied access to the comments page in the unceremonious fashion shown above. Blogger.com must be getting hammered.
Yet another reason why you should host your own content.

Yeah, blogger isn’t the best venue for blog hosting. But, it’s free and I’m poor. Two very important justifications for me
Hey Tracy, thanks for dropping by. In terms of free hosted sites, I think wordpress.com beats blogger. I rarely have troubles with their blogs. Randy says that hosted WordPress doesn’t support Adsense, but it looks to me like you could include it in the sidebar using a text widget.
I know, they had some problem around 11 this morning. Hopefully, my 24 hours on the front page was almost over
I thought using Adsense on wordpress violated their TOS. hmmph.
Oh, maybe it does, Tracy. I haven’t studied it.
Kiltak, it seems to be a general problem with Blogger today. Unless because you have “sex” in your name, your mention on the front page drew in a larger than normal readership on Blogger.
I always knew I chose the perfect name to attract the attention of people
Yeah, and I always have to approve your comments that automatically get sent to moderation. But I don’t mind.
Uh, sorry?
Here, does this work?
It still went to moderation. Your URL has “sex” in it, after all.
Ah well – no big deal. Blogger… wordpress… as long as my feed is up and running then people can keep up with me. That’s what matters I guess.
I’ve never seen AdSense on a WordPress hosted blog and I tried adding it myself and could not figure out how. I also stumbled across numerous others who stuggled to do the same.
Blogger is a double edged sword. Because they offer the best blogging solution, they are pounded into the dirt by sploggers and spammers. Of late, it’s actually better. For someone like Trace, it’s the only solution.
Randy, as long as it isn’t against their TOS, I think you could do it this way on WordPress: pick a theme that is widget-enabled, add a text widget, then copy the Google script code into the text widget. That’s how I do my ads in the sidebar here. You couldn’t add ads anywhere else in the hosted version, though.
Maybe I’m missing something, but you are self-hosted, not hosted. Right? By hosted, I meant hosted at WordPress.com, not self-hosted. Most people are not capable of hosting their own blog.
You’re right, Randy, I host mine. But I do have a hosted blog over there to play with, and from what I can see, you should be able to stick Adsense code into a text widget, if you’re using a theme that supports widgets. Unless, of course, Tracy is right about the TOS.
Got one too!

But I’ve never been able to get AdSense on it. I’ve tried the text widget, but it escapes all the markup. Anybody got specific instructions?
I just tried it, and you’re right. Moreover, it seems to just target Adsense. It left the JotSpot affiliate code in. Check it out: http://sterlingcamden.wordpress.com/
Ok, I found it in the FAQ. WordPress does not allow Adsense at this time. Its use may cause removal of your blog. http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/
Wow, thanks, Tracy! I took that JotSpot ad down right after I read your link. Unfortunately, that means that people like Randy and I will have to avoid recommending wordpress.com for a hosted solution — unless the potential blogger doesn’t want to use ads.
