I don’t think I’ve ever seen Google f- something up related to search like this. I’ve seen stuff like this with Gmail and Google Reader, but not search. This could be an indicator that Google is no longer hiring only the best and in order to grow in now hiring low grade developers.
Hey Randy, I think they’re just de-indexing some of the pages that haven’t been hit very much (or maybe not at all). Might be an algorithm to reduce splogs. One thing I noticed after I put the tag cloud in my sidebar is that it effectively creates a huge link farm back to my content, because Google sees each tag search as a separate page (the URL is different, and so is the content to a degree) and each of those pages is referenced on every page. They might be catching onto that and deciding to de-index some of those that haven’t actually been visited. Or, it could just be a screw-up. Thanks for the input.
