I wonder if you could set up some sort of common log where people could show how much they’ve contributed to what charities by following your call. Voluntary, of course.

That is an EXCELLENT idea!
Every winter I like to take a little “hibernation” from my day job and focus on staying up late working on personal projects. One of my goals for this period of time this winter is to shift a good bit of my company’s Web site to this Agile Platform stuff that Rat Catcher is running on (BTW, I’m figuring out a way to tie Rat Catcher into this when it goes live… something like “we will give $5 to charity for each account that joins between now and XYZ that runs at least X searches in their first month of membership” is what I have in mind for the moment). I’ll add this idea to my list, especially since I need to build out a page on my company site for this.
