I must be doing something right if I’ve been “deemed harmful”.
Better than “deemed harmless” anyway, eh?
Evidently, I’m only mostly harmless.
I finally got around to reading those “Internet laws”. My favorite was the email exchange between Lenski and Schlafly. Of course, you have to actually click through and read it without necessarily knowing in advance that it’s going to be any good.
Yes, that was quite good. The only unsatisfying part of it is that Schlafly undoubtedly missed its entire significance. Can a put-down be called effective if its recipient remains unmoved?
Sure it can. Note that Lenski explicitly pointed out that Schlafly himself was not the intended audience for the thing.
Yes, it works well for that audience. I only wish it could also work on closed minds, but perhaps that’s impossible.
Unfortunately, I think the only person capable of knowing with any certainty how to open a particular closed mind is the owner of that mind — after it has been opened.
One might as well just aim discussion at the outside audience once one has figured out a particular mind is closed, and figure that only incredible luck will make it possible for that closed mind to open up if what you’re saying for the benefit of others happens to coincidentally be the key to that closed mind.
