A couple hundred billion here and there — pretty soon you're talking about some real money.

Not everyone can be a good developer — but at the same time, good tools aren't just a crutch for a good developer. I'm not ready to go back to writing applications in machine code.

OMG, I speedread : “Coding considered harmful”
Blogtopic Question : if you were interviewing a prospective developer what top 3 questions would you ask? Examples :-
1) Have you read Knuth’s books?
2) Explain the Normal forms for relational databases to me.
3) In retrospect, what were your biggest screwups as a developer?
I think your #3 would be the most revealing.
I interviewed a lot of candidates back when I was in corporate America, and came to understand that it’s not so important what the candidate knows as it is that (a) they know how to think on their own and discover what they need (most don’t) and (b) they can fit in with your team (even if it’s in the role of iconoclast).
